Protecting one's vital parts is a concern for all Motorsport enthusiasts. The new motocross and motorcycle helmet range from Kali Protectives will take helmet technology another huge leap forward. Offering greater protection and substantially less weight than other helmets (around 20% less), the new designs have already won awards.
The Prana helmet has already won two major prizes: one in Munich at the ISPO show (an outdoor sports technologies exhibition) and another in Indianapolis USA at the Dealer show.
In the words of Don Morgan:
"
I'm not kidding when I say the Kali Prana is the most scientifically advanced helmet in the World." ... and ...
"The new Kali helmet features three new ideas:
- The cone-head liner (my idea)
- The fusion of the cone-head liner to the outer shell (Kali's idea)
- The liner is made out of better shock absorbing expanded polystyrene foam called
Contego Foam (Strategic Sports Ltd)
And of course the helmet is super lightweight at around 1100 grams.
So it has been a long and hard journey to get my invention to where it is today and I could not have done it without Strategic Sports Ltd and a hand-full of others."
The new Composite Fusion Plus motorcycle helmet range by Kali Protectives featuring the Australian designed Cone-Head® liner is due for release in Australia in the next few months. These helmets are sure to get some well deserved and serious attention from Aussie dirt and road bike riders alike.
Cone-Head® Technology History
Australia has been the home of many excellent inventions over the years, and the Cone-Head® Technology in this new motocross/motorcycle helmet design in another classic example. Invented by Australian Don E Morgan M.A.I.P., this design won the 2007 Invention of the Year award on the ABC TV program 'The New Inventors'.
Since then Don Morgan has had a long, hard slog to get his idea into real world production. As a result manufacturing and production have been licensed overseas to Strategic Sports LTD (China), while development, sales and marketing are handled by Kali Protectives (California, USA).
Don Morgan first became involved with helmets twenty five years ago through a Federal Office of Road Safety research project investigating the effectiveness of motorcycle and bicycle helmets. Eighteen years ago he invented the liner with cones in it giving a helmet a crumple zone ... that's some serious perseverance!
It also reflects rather badly on Australian governments and business alike, that such a good idea took so long to get any traction, and in the end was once more manufactured and commercially developed off-shore.
Cone-Head® Technology Overview
Essentially the Cone-Head® Technology is a
shock absorbing liner design for motorcycle helmets based on a series of compressible cones. Similar to the crumple zones that are now standard in most car designs, the cones are arranged to provide varying degrees of compression so that the more delicate areas of the riders skull are offered greater protection. And all without sacrificing the overall strength and structural integrity of the helmet. The result is a lighter and stronger helmet design that affords substantially better and targeted head protection for all motorcycle riders.
Cone-Head® Australian Distributors
Kali Protectives are currently deciding which of two candidates will supply and distribute the new Cone-Head® Technology helmets to the Australian Motorcycle and Dirt Bike market. An announcement is expected within the next few weeks .. so stay tuned.
